The Trouble with Dreams

It’s normal during a pregnancy to wonder what your child may be like (we all have thoughts and ideas, hopes and dreams about what our babies might be like). The trouble with this is, if the child--for whatever reason--doesn't match up to those dreams, are we then disappointed that the child did not fulfill our dream?

  1. Yes. Definitely yes. That's why a diagnosis like Ds is such a kick in the teeth.

I remember, when we first received Archie's diagnosis, telling myself again and again and again and again... "But he was always this way. From the very beginning. He was never anything else." It became a mantra of acceptance for me. I essentially brain-washed myself into being ok with everything.

    I remember that so vividly.
